The Benefits of LCD TVs!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

LCD TVs use the same technology found in everything from computer monitors to watches and clocks. It uses thousands of small pixels which sit behind the TV screen. Behind these pixels there’s a fluorescent white backlight. When the light hits the pixels, an electric current determines how much light is fed into one of three colored chambers, these are red, green and blue. The amount of light will then determine which color shows up on your screen, and millions of these pixels make up the image that you see on your television screen.

Firstly an LCD screen has far more pixels per square inch than a standard TV (also known as a CRT television.) This means that the image displayed on your screen is far crisper and clearer, resulting in a sharper image. Secondly, due to the LCD screen being back-lit, there will be little or no flare when the sunlight bounces on the screen surface. Apart from the obvious benefits, this also makes LCD screens easier to watch and puts less stress on the eye.

Although LCD TV’s aren’t quite as versatile as plasma televisions, LCD’s have an added advantage of being primarily flat in shape. This means that in addition to occupying less space in your home, a widescreen LCD TV can be viewed from a wide range. LCD televisions are also so compact that a 16 inch LCD flat-screen will offer the same degree of viewable screen as a 20 inch standard television.

Although this will not be your main reason for purchasing an LCD TV, it is worth noting that most modern LCD TVs are slim and stylish. They’ve also been designed with the ability to wall mount in mind. This gives most owners the option to hang their LCD TV on a wall, creating more space in the room. They also normally come with a widescreen aspect ratio which basically means you can watch movies and DVDs the way they were meant to be.

One of the flaws a plasma screen will have is a risk of ‘image burn’. This mainly occurs when a paused or frozen frame remains on the screen too long and the result is a ghosting image emblazoned onto the screen. Fortunately LCD’s do not suffer with this problem and you have no risk of this happening to your new TV!

Finally but by no means the least important of benefits is the LCD’s economics. As a rule, LCD TV’s use up to 60% less power to run than both standard CRT and Plasma screen TV’s! What more could you want than a crystal clear image, a clean and bright viewing area, great picture quality and even a lower energy bill in addition!

  • Vérifiez le dos de votre téléviseur et trouvez les quatre trous enfilés (s’il n’ya pas de trous enfilés ou moins de quatre trous, donc le téléviseur n’est pas classé comme mur-montable);
  • Mesurez les distances horizontales et verticales entre eux (en mm); par exemple, horizontal = 400mm vertical =200mm;
  • Sélectionnez maintenant un support mural avec trous de montage maximum pris en charge plus grand que celui que vous venez de mesurer, mais la taille globale devrait être inférieure à la télévision autrement le support sera visible de l’arrière du téléviseur;

Choosing a Pre-Built HTPC

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you are considering setting up your first HTPC, you may have found that many HTPC websites focus on build-your-own options. If you don’t have any experience with building computers or simply don’t have the time, there are a few pre-built systems available that are ideal for an HTPC. I will discuss a few of them in this article.

ViewSonic VOT132 Mini PC

The ViewSonic VOT132 features a stylish design, compact dimensions and includes an option of discretely attaching to a VESA mount on the back of your LCD monitor. With an Intel Atom dual core processor and NVIDEA ION graphics, the VOT132 provides plenty of power for 1080p HD playback. I/O options include 6 x USB2.0 ports, HDMI, DVI, SPDIF, Ethernet and 3.5mm audio. An optical drive is not build included but the ViewSonic VDD100 DVD RW Super Multi Drive can be purchased as an optional extra. The price is around US$390 with an additional $80 for the VDD100 DVD RW drive.

Dell Inspiron Zino HD

An increasing popular choice for a pre-built HTPC is the Dell Inspiron Zino HD. This is a compact trendy looking unit with the option of interchangeable colors and designs. Powered by an AMD Athlon dual core processor and an ATI Radeon HD 4330 512MB GPU, the Dell Inspiron Zino HD provides plenty of power for HTPC video requirements. However, a more highly spec’ed unit should be purchased if 1080p HD playback is required. I/O ports include 4 x USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, Ethernet, line-out and 2 eSATA connectors. An 8x DVD/CD RW drive is included and an optional Blu-ray disc drive is also available. Prices vary from US$450 for the most basic unit up to $850 for the top of the range unit.

Acer Aspire Revo R3610

The Acer Aspire Revo R3610 is a very compact unit featuring a stylish piano black finish. Like the ViewSonic VOT132 mentioned above, the R3610 also has the option of attaching to the VESA mount on the back of an LCD monitor. 1080P HD playback is supported with NVIDEA ION graphics and a dual core Atom processor. This unit includes 6 x USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, Optical S/PDIF and eSATA IO options. No optical drive is included but an external drive can easily be plugged in. The cost for the 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD option is around US$400.

There are three good options for a pre-built HTPC. They all have similar specifications but the Dell Inspiron Zino HD is the only option with an internal optical drive. The Acer Aspire Revo and ViewSonic VOT132 both have the option of an LCD monitor VESA mount.
