Laptop Vs Netbook – What’s the Difference?
By now everyone is used to the term laptop computer, and many have had the chance to use one. What are some of the differences between a laptop computer and a netbook computer?
A netbook is a smaller computer that weighs about as much as a book you’d take with you on a trans-Atlantic flight. That’s generally about 2 to 3 pounds. A netbook computer is really designed primarily for internet access. It does not have a lot of computer power to run complex programs for the most part. However, it is useful for accessing your email, Skype, and online documents. Another important difference is that most netbooks do not have an optical drive (DVD or CD drive).
A laptop computer can be as small as a 10 inch screen or as large as a 17 inch screen. That 10 inches is about the upper size limit of the netbooks, with some overlap. Laptops also usually have wireless network cards, plenty of computing power with good processors and large amounts of memory and storage. Most come with an optical drive, and many with card readers for reading SD flash memory sticks. Laptops can be just as powerful computers as desktop, and weigh in at about 5 pounds or more.
Both of them are required to be removed from your luggage at airport security checkpoints.
Netbooks are also manufactured to be inexpensive. This can mean less quality in the keyboard components, or other matters of convenience. However, it puts them in a price range that makes them far more affordable than laptops.
To sum, netbooks are not just smaller than laptops, they have less computing power and no optical drive. If you want a real computer, get a laptop. If you want a lighter weight version of a computer for essential internet access, a netbook might just be for you.
